Behind the visible, tangible reality lies an ocean, and we can only see its projections. Although symbols and icons play a role in describing the unseen, their meanings shift depending on the time, place, interpreter, and the one who perceives them. Symbols are veiled and complex; yet the aspect behind them is clear and distinct. The path of this inquiry perhaps does not pass through number and form, but through influence and direction.
The contemporary dance installation a tangible blue exists within a rhizomatic structure at the transparent boundaries of movement, matter, and sound. It aims to open a space for contemplation by examining the manifestation of symbolism and icons within consciousness.
This expression forms a poetic mechanism and synthesis through five dancers, a 25 m² modular wooden structure, and various components that attach to and detach from the structure during the performance.
A poem written for the piece
You know those days when you deeply feel like you've lost something
On one of those days, it seems as if the sun shines a bit brighter.
And I thought, if I were someone else on a day like that,
I’d enjoy it.
It felt like a deep dream.
That day, a small candle was lit— then painted over by a giant sun.
Perhaps it will be those who turn the faint candlelight into a sun
who will save the world now.
Let’s try...
To not fear trees with crooked shadows
And by strange nightmares ar day dreams
Because the size of something does not alter the working of its principle.
Because everything multiplies through one another.
Because what enters a state will one day exit it.
Because freedom is not something to be granted or taken.
From number and shape, to influence and direction
In multiple spatial extremities
With more than one meaning,
More than one landscape,
Sometimes revealed, sometimes hidden.
And
a small candle was lit
In an instant: one meaning, one scene.
Within matter, an unseen ocean emerged.
And I watched it through a slit as thin as a strand of hair.
Because all the mornings of the world are hidden beside a firefly.
